About Bonaire

You can't compare Bonaire with the other islands of the Netherlands Antilles or with Aruba. The so-called A-B-C islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao) are situated next to each other and all have a very nice climate, but that is as much as they are alike. Bonaire is a very peaceful and ecological island with a lot of nature. It's tranquil, very laid back, intimate, cosy and with a friendly population. On Bonaire you are not just a tourist; you feel safe and at home!

Bonaire is one of the best places in the world for diving and is well known amongst scuba divers. The sea surrounding the island is a National Marine Park till a depth of 57 meters.

What can you do in Bonaire? Whatever you want to! Interact with people, wine and dine and of course: diving and snorkeling! On Bonaire there are a lot of places where you easily can enter the sea for diving, snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking, biking, caving, hiking, rappelling, kiteboarding and landsailing. You just need a car or truck!

Bonaire is the second largest island of the Dutch Antillean islands with 179 square miles (288 km2), which is about as big as the island Malta. But Bonaire has only 12000 inhabitants, so therefore it's very quiet and relaxed. There are no parking problems or traffic jams and you won't find any traffic lights at all!

The island has a tropical desert climate with temperatures fluctuating in-between 94F in summer and 81F in winter. The northeastern trade wind, which blows continuously, is very cooling and makes it easy to endure the warm weather.

Bonaire has a beautiful boulevard, with a lot of entries to the ocean, cosy restaurants with good and reasonable priced food and a lot of different shops. You'll find 4 banks and about 8 ATMs.

Currency is the NAF (Netherlands Antillian Florin) or the US Dollar. Everywhere you may pay with the Naf or Dollar. 1 Dollar = 1.75 Naf. Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere.
